So tonight I had Christian book club. I almost didn't go since 1) I forgot about it until I told Jess she could take my car but I had to take the Christmas presents out of the back first. That's when I saw the book I've been not trying to hard to read lately and remembered that I had book club today. and 2.) I didn't really feel like going since I have a ton of stuff to do. but 3.) I was signed up to bring snack. I got there about five minutes late, not too bad!!
As usual I felt a little odd at first since I am the only one that doesn't go to their church, or any church for that matter. We covered a lot of different topics of conversation but in the end we spent the most time talking about a young couple from their church.
The young couple who were in leadership roles at church had a little hanky panky going on on the side and now someone has a bun in the oven. They were all kinds of upset about this.
I'm sure they all love me because I asked them why it bothered them so much. They said it was mostly because they had flat out lied when they were asked if they were having sex. I said that they probably just told them what they wanted to hear. Really who would tell a pastor's wife that they were sinning?
Apparently they were all mostly just disappointed in this young couple who they thought would have went so far and were such a good example to the younger kids. But now that DUN DUN DUN the girl is pregnant none of that is going to happen. (Because you know, once you get pregnant you can never accomplish anything)
I asked if when they are mentoring these "kids" (these kids are really young adults although they aren't quite 19 yet) do they tell them that abstinence is the only way or do they also tell them that if they ARE having sex that they should use protection? She said that when they ask them if they are having sex and if they say yes the next question is do they use protection.
Since the kids were in leadership they were asked to step down. Since you know, they are sinners and they aren't setting a good example for the other kids in the church. I asked if they got married if they would be allowed to be in leadership again. They said yes, most likely.
I find this all so fascinating and I'm sure they all think I'm just the worst with my straight up questions I ask. Sex is so powerful in the almighty church.Pin It
