Camping Day 2

I forgot to mention where we were camping yesterday. Although with all the BEARS I would recommend taking a dog that barks! My friend had her Yorkie but the thing never made a sound with any of the bear things going on.

We stayed at Sugar Pine Point Campground. When you stay at the campground you get free admission to their beach. The beach is below the Hellman-Ehrman Mansion

which is really cool but has a HUGE steep hill to go down to get to the lake. Going down is easy, going back up, not so much! I've never been in the mansion but Melissa got to go in it with our friend A who took her, Trevor, and 2 of his kids. After she went on the tour she went around smelling all the trees to find out which ones smelled like vanilla.

The older kids all love to go to this lake for the big dock they can jump off.

This is the #1 priority when we go to Tahoe! Jessica was all excited to have her friend M jump off with her since this was her first time camping with us there.

I have never went off the dock.

1.) I'm chicken
2.) The water is FREAKISHLY COLD
3.) I don't DO cold water.

If there is a sign like this you know the water is cold.

The water was a lot lower this year too so there was actually some beach to play on. Year before last when we went there there was hardly any drop on the dock and NO beach.

I actually did go in the water a lit bit but mostly sat on the beach reading

Bitter Is The New Black by Jen Lancaster.

I was happy to learn while I was reading the book that she got her start writing by being a blogger!

While I was sitting there I heard my friend scream. I instantly thought

"this HAS to be good blogging material!"

I took a video but blogger is being stupid at the moment. I will keep trying to load it.

Sure enough! They found a crawdad under the water (the bottom of the lake by the shore is full of rocks). My friend is cracking me up with her hysterical screaming over a crawdad.

I probably would have done the same thing though. Obviously we live a sheltered life lol.

There are tons of chipmunks running around too!

Here is Melissa

And worthless bear dog Sophie

Everyone spent some time making this rock spa

The air was still smokey on Sunday. Usually you can see the mountains on the otherside of the lake. There are always ferry boats on the lake.

Love this picture of Jessica and her friend M. They have been friends since they were 5.

When it was time to go Trevor was crying his legs hurt. I had brought this granny basket to help carry all our crap and told him he could ride in it. We had to take turns getting him up the wicked hill since he weighs a ton. I kept hoping one of the wheels wasn't going to pop off. He looks pretty cute to me though!

Stayed tuned tomorrow for the BEAR SIGHTING with photo evidence.Pin It

I know where you are coming from, after 6 years of living in the area I did that "hill" last year and it was torture! Lovely going down, horrendous coming up, especially with Ned on my shoulders! I also love the way the locals refer to that mansion as a "castle"! Dude, I'm from England, I live near a real castle and it is 50,000 times bigger than that shack!

The water is cold but lovely when it is boiling hot and you are simmering on the beach. The smoke is bad this year, worst I have ever seen it, but it is better up at the lake than down here in Reno. And the water is really low for some reason this year?

Glad you had a good time and didn't get eaten by bears!
